Description

The Refugee Housing Project Coordinator will coordinate the refugee housing program, with the aim of finding permanent housing for refugees, circumventing the City Shelter System. Project scope will include refugee settlement support, acquisition of emergency shelter through integrated network of hotels and shelters, and sourcing permanent housing. Project Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Refugee Settlement Workers, Refugee Housing Workers, supervised by the Associate Director. As with all roles within the office, there are certain overarching responsibilities that apply to each stream of this role. These duties include the attention to case management, the attendance to all staff and program specific meetings, following the policies of anti-oppression, confidentiality, the maintenance of accurate client records & files, and reporting. This position will also include overnight after-hours emergency client intake, on a rotation basis with the coordinated Refugee Housing Project team. The position will include the possibility of a hybrid model of in person and remote work. Covid-19 vaccination is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and support the Refugee Protection and Housing programs in all aspects of work including but not limited to:
    • Coordinate refugee settlement services including form filling, applications to Legal Aid, Ontario Works, housing search, contacting coalition partners for shelter and permanent housing needs, and addressing emerging support for refugee clients.
    • Provide coordinated case management with internal and external stakeholders, including liaison with Intake and Refugee Housing Project Coordinator to include appropriate referrals, advocacy and ensure continued support and stabilization.
    • Expand relationships with landlords in Toronto, and shelter systems outside of Toronto.
    • Within the collaborative team model, ensure 24/7 emergency shelter access for refugees.
    • Represent the organization at community activities, networks and coalitions.
    • Ensure to update client’s file in the database every day, and to check respective information up-to-date.
    • Assisting in sorting out daily donations and taking them to respective places.
    • Complete regular reporting as required.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Follow organizational policies of Anti-Oppressive practices, confidentiality, and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate client records and files.

Qualifications

  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset.
  • Excellent program and project management skills.
  • Results oriented, highly motivated, and able to work effectively independently or within a team setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and background in working with individuals from diverse communities.
  • Strong foundation in settlement and refugee-serving sectors.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and planning skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a wide variety of agencies in a community-based setting and within an anti-oppression framework.
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office, the Internet, and email.
