A message from Diana Gallego, FCJ Refugee Centre Senior Director, on the occasion of World Refugee Day.

Transcript:

Welcome to a brand new episode of the Borderless Voices podcast, presented by the FCJ Refugee Centre.

Hi, my name is Diana Gallego. I’m the senior director at FCJ Refugee Centre.

Today, June 20, is World Refugee Day, and we celebrate the resilience of refugees and asylum seekers around the world.

Today, more than ever, millions of persons face displacement and are on the move due to war, famine and internal conflict.

We Canadians are called to maintain the doors open for refugees because from the millions that are on the move, we get a small number.

Also, we are calling to the Government of Canada to expand the sanctions of the Safe Third Country Agreement and allow refugees that enter irregularly to claim protection before the 14 days, so they don’t risk their lives, and they can have access to settlement services, to legal advice, and to continue with their lives.

The theme of this World Refugee Day is Hope Away From Home.

Then let’s keep our hope.

Thank you.
