The FCJ Youth Network has shaped a positive and inclusive space to welcome migrant and refugee youth from around the world. The group works from a strong intersectional framework, and welcomes anyone regardless of their immigration status, gender identity, sexual identity, language ability, length of time in Canada, skin colour, country of origin, or any other aspect of their identity.
The FCJ Youth Network strives to celebrate the resilience and potential of each of its members, and address the multiple barriers that impede their full and equitable participation in Canadian society. The group is open for migrant and refugee youth between the ages of 13 and 30 (and allies). We meet every Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the FCJ Refugee Centre, with a special family dinner on the last Wednesday of each month, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
The Youth Network engages in a range of activities from skills-building workshops such as resume building and learning about mental health, to social activities and excursions, rallies, protests, or an annual summer trip to Canada’s Wonderland. We have also attended film screenings, and hosted garage sales and a number of craft sessions from knitting to painting! Each year, our sessions are planned and organised by the members themselves to build community, learn skills and grow with each other.
