Join us for the Fall 2026 TMU Walk with Uprooted People in support of FCJ Refugee Centre!

Several teams from across Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) campus are participating in a solidarity walk and fundraising initiative to support the FCJ Refugee Centre on its 35th anniversary, and help it continue to carry out its mission of improving the lives of refugees and vulnerable migrants.

You can learn more about this initiative and donate, create or join a team, or sign up as an individual for the activity here. The TMU Criminalizing Global Migration CRM 360 team organizing the event can be found and supported here.

100% of every tax-deductible donation backs FCJ Refugee Centre’s work to challenge systemic barriers and uphold the dignity and rights of people seeking safety.

This is CRM 360’s second year engaging in solidarity activities with the FCJ Refugee Centre, while others such as the Global Migration Institute have participated in walks and rides in support of the Centre since 2021. The Centre has recently been hosting Criminology MA placement students and collaborating with migration-focused classes.

On November 25 we will meet and conclude our activity as follows:

  • Meet in ENG 106, the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre Academic Building, TMU
    • Where: 245 Church St, Toronto
    • When: Wednesday, November 25, 8:00 AM
  • Walk to Metro Hall
  • Enjoy light refreshments at Hall; up to 200 people sitting theatre style
  • Meet with representatives of thwe City’s Newcomer Office
  • End by 10:30 AM, so students may make it to any 11 AM classes

Context for this activity:

This 2026-2027 academic year several campus partners are engaged in the We’re Better Together: Our Canada includes Immigrants and Refugees! campaign, inspired by the national campaign led by the Canadian Council for Refugees and partners across the country.

The goals are to combat racism, hate and exclusion and build more inclusive communities by engaging in concrete actions to build solidarity and support newcomers in our community. You can read more about these efforts here.
