Location: FCJ Refugee Centre, 208 Oakwood Ave, York, ON M6E 2V4
Time Commitment: Minimum 2 hours per week, every Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm

The FCJ Refugee Centre is dedicated to supporting refugees and other marginalized populations by offering a range of services including legal support, housing assistance, education, and community integration. Position Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to assist with our Art and Book Club Summer Program. This program is designed to engage refugee children and youth in creative activities and foster a love for reading. Volunteers will help plan, organize, and lead art projects and book discussions, creating a fun and educational experience for participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Planning and Preparation:
– Assist in developing a weekly schedule of art projects and book club activities.
– Prepare materials and resources needed for each session.
– Coordinate with other volunteers and staff to ensure smooth program operations.
- Session Facilitation:
– Lead art activities and facilitate book discussions for children and youth.
– Encourage participation and engagement from all participants.
– Provide support and guidance to participants during activities.
- Participant Support:
– Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
– Address any behavioral or participation issues with patience and understanding.
– Offer individualized support to participants who may need extra assistance.
- Monitoring and Reporting:
– Keep track of attendance and participation in the program.
– Provide feedback and suggestions for program improvement.
– Report any issues or concerns to the program coordinator.
Qualifications
- Passion for working with children and youth, especially those from refugee or marginalized backgrounds.
- Experience or interest in art, crafts, and literature.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to work in a diverse and multicultural environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the duration of the program.
