- Provide shelter and basic life necessities such as food, clothing and transportation for women and children.
- Provide to refugees and other uprooted people education, counselling and support services, including translation interpretation services, referrals to legal assistance, employment training, programs on Canadian culture and life, and other educational workshops.
- Assist refugees and other uprooted people to adjust to Canadian society.
Description
For this role, the Anti-Human Trafficking Youth Worker will be supporting the office by primarily working with two teams working alongside the Youth Coordinators – the Anti-Human Trafficking Team, supervised by the Anti-Human Trafficking Manager, and the Access to Education team, supervised by the Senior Director. As with all roles within the office, there are certain overarching responsibilities that apply to each stream of this role. These duties include the attention to case management, the attendance to all staff and program specific meetings, following the policies of anti-oppression, confidentiality, the maintenance of accurate client records & files, and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Support and actively participate in the Youth Network and the Youth Alliance Against Human Trafficking program with the Youth Coordinators.
- Provide holistic case management and support to vulnerable migrant youth, at-risk youth, and young survivors of human trafficking.
- Share information and resources with youth about their rights as migrants, as well as their labour rights, particularly for those who are exploited, at risk, or survivors of human trafficking.
- Conduct outreach to partner organizations, youth service providers, schools, shelters, and other youth-focused spaces to promote the Youth Alliance program and the FCJ Youth Network with the support of the Youth Coordinators.
- Support with organizing and facilitating weekly meetings for the FCJ Youth Network including youth events, activities, outings, and workshops for the Youth Alliance and the Youth Network
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date client records.
- Collaborate with the Youth and Anti-Human Trafficking teams to develop program toolkits and contribute to advocacy materials such as letters, pamphlets, and posters.
- Represent FCJ and contribute to community-building and awareness-raising efforts through coalition work (e.g., CCR, TCHTN), trainings, and meetings with partner organizations and stakeholders.
- Uphold organizational policies and practices, including confidentiality, reporting, and anti-oppression principles.
- Take on additional responsibilities and tasks as needed, in response to emerging priorities and organizational needs.
Qualifications
- Second language capabilities required – fluency in French, Portuguese or Spanish.
- Previous experience writing evaluations, reports and/or tool-kits is required.
- Experience in working with newcomer youth (immigrant, refugee, or non-status) and providing individual and group supports to marginalized youth.
- Knowledgeable about community resources.
- Strong youth engagement skills for program development and delivery is required.
- Experience working from an intersectional and anti-oppression-based framework is required.
- Adept in public speaking with experience in facilitating workshops, meetings and information sessions.
- Knowledgeable in media production such as podcasts, videos, and technological expertise in Zoom, Go To Meeting and social media, considered an asset
- Lived experience with human trafficking and/or migration will be recognized.
- Must be willing and able to work in a flexible environment and collaborate with other program areas as needed.
- Must be able to adapt a flexible work arrangement which may include a combination of virtual remote work from home and work in office arrangements. This will be based on organization and program needs as determined by supervisor.
